BLOOMFIELD, NJ – May 9, 2025 - The Bloomfield Fire Department, in partnership with the Bloomfield Engineering Department, will begin routine, mandatory hydrant flushing starting the night of Monday, May 12, 2025, at 11:00 PM. This annual maintenance program will run through Thursday, September 19, 2025.
To minimize disruption to residents, notifications will be made ahead of time via the Township Cable Channel (Channel 35), the Township Website, and the Township Facebook Page. Residents can find a complete list of locations and scheduled flushing dates by visiting the Township Website at: www.bloomfieldtwpnj.com/1484/HYDRANT-FLUSHING.
During flushing, residents may notice temporary discoloration in their water. Excess sediment can accumulate in household filters, which may reduce filter life. Filters may be reinstalled after flushing in your area is complete.
Routine hydrant flushing is mandated by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the National Fire Protection Association to remove sediment from the water system and ensure that hydrants are operating correctly in the event of an emergency.
Approximately 1,200 fire hydrants throughout Bloomfield will be flushed during this process, which is expected to take about five months to complete.
