BLOOMFIELD, NJ – Councilman Ted Gamble has been selected to serve as Interim Mayor following the resignation of former Mayor and recently elected Assemblyman Michael Venezia. He received four votes from members of the Council, while Councilwoman Jenny Mundell received two votes and Nicole Williams received no votes after the three candidates were nominated by members of the Bloomfield Democratic Committee.
"No matter who took this position, we would continue to work together on behalf of Bloomfield,” said Interim Mayor Gamble in his remarks Monday night. “It is an honor to have the trust and support of the Township Council and be chosen to serve as the Mayor of Bloomfield. I will dedicate myself to this position the same way I’ve been committed to my council position for the past seven years, and as Mayor I will lead us forward and provide a vision that takes Bloomfield into the future. We’ve made great progress as a township, and I intend to drive us into new territory so that Bloomfield is synonymous with excellence.”
Wasting no time, Interim Mayor Gamble outlined an ambitious agenda aimed at propelling Bloomfield forward. The comprehensive plan includes a commitment to budgetary transparency, prioritizing environmental sustainability, establishing an office dedicated to constituent services, appointing a business development advocate, and working with township employees to foster an environment of progress and innovation where each individual feels valued and appreciated.
A resident of Bloomfield for 13 years, Interim Mayor Gamble began his public service in town, co-founding The Friends of Watsessing Park Conservancy with his neighbors. He resides in the 3rd ward with his wife Jennifer, son Asher, and their dog Billie Jean, a rescue from the Bloomfield Animal Shelter. An advocate for sustainability, parks and open space, and cultural affairs, Mayor Gamble is a proud Essex County native originally hailing from Maplewood.
Elected to the Town Council in 2016 and re-elected for a third term in November 2022, he has served on the following Boards and Commissions:
- Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs
- Animal Shelter Advisory Committee
- Planning Board Member New Jersey Planning Officials
- Bloomfield Pride Founding Member
- CATV Program Committee
- Beautification Committee

Interim Mayor Gamble will serve in the position until November, when an election will be held for the remaining year left on former Mayor Venezia’s term. A special primary election will be held in June for political parties to nominate candidates for the position.
