BLOOMFIELD, NJ -- The Bloomfield Water Department has contracted John Garcia Construction Co. to inspect the water lines of approximately 500 residences mainly in the Merkel Street, Foster Street and Ivanhoe Terrace area. The inspection is out of an abundance of caution and should any lead service lines be found, the lead will be removed.
“The safety of residents is our number one priority, which is why we have taken such an aggressive approach to ensure that all drinking water in the township is safe and free of any contaminants,” said Mayor Venezia. “These inspections, conducted by our Water Department will quickly alert us if there are any problems that we need to address. We will continue to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to our water infrastructure to improve public health.”
This is one of several projects being performed by the Bloomfield Water Department around the township to eliminate any lead service lines that may exist. The township has invested over 10 million dollars in water infrastructure improvements over the last few years.
The project will not cause any major disruptions to the houses where the lines are being inspected and all affected houses will receive a notice in the mail. Residents do not need to be home when the inspection is taking place and water will not be shut off.
