BLOOMFIELD, NJ -- The township’s waste and recycling provider Suburban Disposal has announced that they will be shifting their pick up schedule in an effort to minimize the potential of large groups of their employees. As a result of the change, service in some municipalities that they serve will begin as early as 2am.
“We have been in communication with our waste and recycling provider who has informed us of necessary, temporary measures that they are taking to keep their workforce safe,” said Mayor Michael Venezia. “Any new scheduling information regarding waste and recycling pick up will be shared with the public as soon as we are made aware of it. We will remain in close contact with Suburban Disposal as new details continue to emerge.”
If deemed necessary they will also change collection schedules and pick up days to include Saturdays and Sundays. Any changes that are made to the schedule will be communicated with residents in a timely manner.
Should the workforce of Suburban Disposal be reduced as a result of the virus, they will cease all recycling and bulk collection. Suburban Disposal has been in contact with local county officials and the Department of Environmental Protection to request extended hours at the disposal facilities to accommodate the shifting of employees.
