Individuals and groups encouraged to sign up to clean areas of their choosing

BLOOMFIELD, NJ -- On Saturday, October 19, residents, community groups and local businesses of Bloomfield will be participating in a town-wide cleanup. The goal is to bring the community together while beautifying the town. The event is also sponsored by the Bloomfield Beautification Committee and the Bloomfield Department of Public Works.

“Events like community cleanups bring residents together for a purpose that will benefit us all,”  said Mayor Michael Venezia. “We hope that this is one of many beautification efforts in the future. We see first-hand how beneficial they are for everyone involved.”

Residents and business owners have identified areas in need of cleanup, and volunteer groups are signing up to clean areas of their choosing, but the Beautification Committee is still taking new locations. Residents, community groups and local businesses can register at this link, identifying their location of choosing on the form: https://forms.gle/F4w7vfTHKTXcQZzi8. Participants will be informed via email of details via email a few days prior to the event. The day will begin at 8:30am when Team Captains will pickup Cleanup Day T-shirts and Success Kits, including gloves, bags, shovels, and rakes at the DPW yard at 230 Grove Street. Cleanup projects will be from 9:30am to noon. From noon to 2:00pm, DPW staff will pick up refuse bags and tools at the designated location or they can be dropped off at the DPW building.

“Residents and business owners are the people who see our town every day,” said Councilwoman Jenny Mundell. “That is why it is so important for them to let us know which areas need the most help. This community-building project is something I know the residents of Bloomfield will come together for.”

To join an existing group, please email beautifulbloomfield@gmail.com. Participants are encouraged to share before and after pictures on social media using the hashtags: #trashtag #bloomfieldcleanupday #beautifulbloomfield #bloomfieldnj. Pictures can be emailed to beautifulbloomfield@gmail.com. The rain date will be Sunday, October 20.
