As construction of a new mixed-use development begins at the abandoned Farrand Street property, residents are being asked to relocate their vehicles to the Glenwood Parking Garage and other surrounding lots. The last day cars can park at the Farrand Street lot is Monday, September 17. Permit holders need to contact and stop by Bloomfield Parking to be reassigned a parking location at the Glenwood Parking Garage and surrounding area.
After receiving dozens of bids, the Bloomfield Township Council approved the sale of the abandoned Farrand Street property to Lackawanna Station Urban Renewal LLC for the purposes of a mixed-use development. In addition to the ratables that will be generated when construction of the project is completed, the lot will also have approximately 320 parking spaces, far more than the current number of approximately 200.
“For years, the abandoned Farrand Street property was an eyesore and a money pit, but the upcoming mixed-use development is a project that will add a lot of value to residents downtown,” said Mayor Michael Venezia. “To ensure that construction didn’t inconvenience commuters and permit-holders, Bloomfield Parking conducted a thorough analysis of parking capacities. Rest assured, the Glenwood Avenue garage and surrounding lots have more than enough spaces to accommodate everyone.”
“Since the dissolution of Bloomfield Parking Authority, Bloomfield Parking has fallen under the purview of the Department of Public Safety. This consolidation of municipal departments has reduced overhead costs, and will save everyone time and resources during construction of the Farrand Street development, because the people enforcing parking codes, and helping commuters find spots will be Bloomfield Police personnel,” said Director of Public Safety Samuel DeMaio. “Most of the permit-holders who usually park in the Farrand Street lot have already moved their cars to the Glenwood Avenue garage without incident, and Police Officers will be on hand in the coming weeks during this transition.”
A percentage of 2-hour parking spots in the Glenwood Parking Garage, and Royal Street and Conger Street lots may be converted to long term commuter parking. Bloomfield Parking is located at:
