
Bloomfield, NJ – Last night, the Bloomfield Police Department held its annual Awards Ceremony at Carteret School to honor the exceptional service and dedication of its officers. The event celebrated acts of heroism, outstanding community engagement, and professional excellence.
"Congratulations to all the honorees recognized at Bloomfield's Annual Police Department Awards Ceremony," said Mayor Jenny Mundell. "Our police officers truly exemplify the values of service, integrity, and commitment that define our town. Their courage and dedication inspire us all, and we are fortunate to have such exceptional individuals protecting and serving Bloomfield."
Among the evening’s honorees were Officer Nicholas Santorella and Officer Gary Peters Jr., who received the prestigious “Medal of Honor,” the highest recognition of the evening, for acts of heroic courage in the line of duty despite imminent personal risk.
Lieutenant Daniel Niekrasz was also honored with the Chief’s Award, personally selected by Chief Ricci, for his exceptional dedication and commitment to making the Bloomfield Police Department one of the most professional and efficient agencies in New Jersey.
Police Chief George Ricci also praised all the officers’ achievements, emphasizing their role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the community. “These awards are a testament to the incredible work our officers perform every day. Their efforts not only keep Bloomfield safe but also strengthen the bonds of trust and respect with our residents.”
Chief Ricci also honored the Central Communications Dispatchers, often referred to as the unsung heroes of the department, for their critical behind-the-scenes role in ensuring public safety.
The ceremony highlighted a variety of commendations, with local officials, community leaders, and proud family members in attendance to applaud the honorees. The evening was a reminder of the exceptional work performed by the Bloomfield Police Department every day to safeguard the community.
