Home - News Flash Posted on May 16, 2025

BLOOMFIELD, NJ - May 16, 2025 - The Township of Bloomfield is reaffirming its commitment to public health by joining a statewide initiative designed to promote wellness and improve quality of life for residents. During the upcoming Bloomfield Township Council Meeting on Monday, May 19th, Mayor Jenny Mundell and the Town Council will introduce a resolution to formally join the Mayors Wellness Campaign (MWC).

The MWC is led by the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute in partnership with the New Jersey League of Municipalities. It empowers mayors and local leaders to champion healthier communities through targeted programming and community engagement.

Bloomfield will launch its participation with the Mayor’s Wellness Walk on Sunday, June 1st at 9:00 AM, followed by a series of monthly wellness events running through October. This initiative reflects the Township’s deep commitment to fostering an environment that supports healthy living - recognizing that long-term health outcomes are shaped by where people live, work, and age.

“Our goal is to make health and wellness more accessible and inclusive for everyone in Bloomfield," said Mayor Jenny Mundell. “By joining the Mayors Wellness Campaign, we’re taking an intentional step toward building a stronger, more connected community - one where every resident has the opportunity to thrive.”

Throughout the five-month campaign, the Township will host a variety of accessible health programs and screening events aimed at addressing community needs and reducing barriers to care. Planned events include:

  • Mobile health screening clinics
  • Community wellness walks
  • Public vaccination events
  • A family-friendly Bike Rodeo
  • Health education workshops
  • Preventive care services

The Bloomfield Department of Health will lead the implementation of the campaign in collaboration with Township leadership, community partners, and local organizations. The department will coordinate outreach efforts, identify key resources and priority programs, and address existing gaps in health services across the community.

Health Officer Maya Harlow added, “Thanks to the leadership of Mayor Mundell, this campaign is grounded in equity, access, and empowerment. We are proud to support residents in making informed, healthy choices for themselves and their families.”

Residents are encouraged to participate in campaign events and play an active role in shaping a healthier, more connected Bloomfield. Registration is required for the Mayor’s Wellness Walk on June 1st. To sign up, please visit: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MWWBloomfield.
