BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield FireFighters have been trained by industry experts in the area of functional fitness over the last few days. The course took place at Bloomfield Fire Headquarters and involved both classroom and hands on training.
The eight hour course focused on the four pillars of Functional Fitness: Physical Fitness; Rest and Recover; Hydration; and Nutrition. The course was taught by Jim Moss and Dan Kerrigan. Dan is an Assistant Chief with the East Whiteland, PA Fire Department and Jim is a Lieutenant with the Metro West, MO Fire Protection District. They speak to FireFighters all around the country about improving their fitness level.
“Education and training is a great investment to ensure Bloomfield Fire Department personnel are operating in a safer manner,” said Mayor Michael Venezia. “I would like to commend every Bloomfield FireFighter, and the Department leadership, for its commitment to becoming more effective and efficient.”
“We want to provide our department members with the best training available in order to keep them as safe as possible, and better serve the residents when they need us to respond to an emergency,” said Fire Chief Louis Venezia. “I would like to thank the instructors for their time and helping us improve our FireFighters’ work performance and safety.”
The Fire Department has also recently trained its members with a class on leadership and team building workshops.
