BLOOMFIELD, NJ — The Bloomfield
Fire Department has received a $3,010 fire prevention grant from FM Global, one
of the world’s largest commercial property insurers. The award will be used to
assist with fire prevention activities to help educate the community and reduce
the number of fires.
“The Township of Bloomfield was the
first fire department in New Jersey to establish a Fire Prevention Bureau, in
1953, and our former Chief Jack Flaherty organized the New Jersey Fire
Prevention Association in 1962,“ said Mayor Michael Venezia. “Fire
prevention and fire safety education are critical to keeping our township safe
and I would like to thank FM Global providing us with this important grant
assistance.”
“Fire prevention and fire safety
education have been my top priorities since I became Fire Chief. This grant
from FM Global will enhance our fire safety education programs and overall
ability to serve the community,” said Fire Chief Louis Venezia. “I am
very proud to see our hard work be recognized and thank FM Global for their assistance.”
“At FM Global, we strongly believe
the majority of property damage is preventable, not inevitable,” said
Michael Spaziani, assistant vice president – manager of the fire prevention
grant program. “Far too often, inadequate budgets prevent those
organizations working to prevent fire from being as proactive as they would
like to be. With additional financial support, grant recipients are actively
helping to improve property risk in the communities they serve.”
Through its Fire Prevention Grant
Program, FM Global awards grants to fire departments—as well as national,
state, regional, local and community organizations worldwide—that best
demonstrate a need for funding, where dollars can have the most demonstrable
impact on preventing fire, or mitigating the damage it can quickly cause.
