BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP DISTRIBUTING WATER DUE TO NEWARK WATER MAIN BREAK, BOIL WATER ADVISORY STILL IN EFFECT
BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Township of Bloomfield is still under a boil water advisory due to the water main break in Belleville on Tuesday morning, and starting today at 1:00 pm the Township will be distributing water to residents in need in the rear parking lot of the Bloomfield Public Library & Civic Center until 9:00 pm.
A 72-inch water main broke in Branch Brook Park on the border of Newark and neighboring Belleville around 8 AM Tuesday morning, wreaking havoc in New Jersey's largest city and nearby communities. While the township’s water pressure has improved, and at this time, the presence of e-coli or fecal coliform has not been detected in the water system, water breaks of this nature, where water pressure or service was low or non-existent for a period of time, require that the township sample and re-sample the water to verify that these contaminants have not been introduced into the potable water system.
Further information can be found on the township website or by calling the water department at 973-680-4009. The township will continue to update residents through the website, our Cable TV Channels 35 on Comcast and 30 on FIOS, and through further telephone announcements.
