[ARCHIVED] Statewide Ban On Single Use Plastic Bags Takes Effect May 4

Bag and Foam

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – Beginning on May 4, retail stores, grocery stores and food service businesses in New Jersey can not provide or sell single-use plastic carryout bags or polystyrene foam food service products in an effort aimed at curbing environmental impact.

Additionally, grocery stores larger than 2,500 square feet will not be allowed to provide or sell single-use paper carryout bags. These stores will only be permitted to sell reusable bags to their customers.

“Very shortly, businesses in Bloomfield and across New Jersey will no longer be able to provide the single-use items that we have all grown accustomed to as consumers,” said Mayor Venezia. “We are working to make sure that everyone is aware of this upcoming change so that the transition can occur as smoothly as possible, and I encourage the businesses in our community to solidify their plans in order to limit any possible disruptions to your customers.”
