BLOOMFIELD, NJ -- The Township of Bloomfield auctioned off street signs last week, with 800 being sold on an online auction hosted by GovDeals. The Township replaced all street signs in town over the past year, and rather than throw away the old signs, wanted to make sure residents interested in Bloomfield history could claim signs of their choosing.
The auction took place with resources from the Mayor’s Office, Department of Public Works and Parks Recreation & Cultural Affairs. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Township of Bloomfield. The bidding began at $10. The highest bidding sign went for $386. Some others ranged from $150-$250, while the others mostly came in below $100.
“I would like to thank all of the Township employees who helped plan and operate this online sale. It was a great way to allow residents to own a real piece of Bloomfield history, and generate revenue for the town,” said Mayor Michael Venezia.
Winners will need to show proof of payment/bid via a printed paper receipt or email confirmation on their mobile device at time of pickup. Pick up dates are Thursday, December 19th 5:00-8:00pm, Friday, December 20th 12:00-7:00pm and Saturday, December 21st 9:00am-12:00pm in the Civic Center, located at 84 Broad St. The Township will have a live auction for the remaining 400 signs sometime in the Spring.
