BLOOMFIELD, NJ – April 23, 2025 – In the late afternoon of April 23, 2025, around 2:58 PM, the Bloomfield Fire Department, with support from the Belleville, Nutley, and East Orange fire departments, responded to a house fire at 52 Laurel Avenue. Fire units arrived on the scene in under three minutes to find an active fire that had originated from a vehicle in the rear of the home and spread to the structure.

All Bloomfield Fire Department units were on site, and mutual aid house coverage was provided by the West Orange, Montclair, and Verona fire departments.

Thanks to the swift and coordinated response of fire crews, the fire was brought under control and contained. The home sustained major fire damage, but fortunately, the resident suffered only minor injuries and declined medical treatment at the scene. No firefighters were injured during the response.

“This was a dangerous and fast-moving fire, and I’m proud of how quickly our firefighters responded,” said Bloomfield Fire Chief Lou Venezia. “Their professionalism and training were on full display, and the strong collaboration with our mutual aid partners helped prevent a more serious outcome.”

Bloomfield Mayor Jenny Mundell also praised the emergency response, stating, “Once again, our Fire Department showed its commitment to protecting our community. I’m grateful to our firefighters and all the supporting departments for their brave work. We’re fortunate no serious injuries occurred, and my thoughts are with the affected residents as they begin to recover from this devastating event.”

Further investigation is underway to determine more details about the fire’s origin.
