Pregnant women who are diagnosed with hepatitis B are referred to the Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program of their local health department. Upon receiving a referral, the public health nurse case manager will contact the pregnant woman to discuss and provide health counseling about hepatitis B.
Our office provides, free of charge, hepatitis B vaccination series to household and sexual contact(s) of the pregnant woman.
Once the baby is delivered, the public health nurse case manager ensures the child receives and completes the hepatitis B vaccine series and lab work. The goal is for the child to achieve immunity against hepatitis B.
