Bloomfield Recreation Department proudly announces the re-opening of the state-of-the-art skate park
It is almost that time again to re-open our state-of-the-art skate park. Projected park opening (weather permitting) is March 21, 2009.
After an extremely successful grand opening, the Bloomfield Recreation is getting ready to open the park and continue to provide an opportunity for all of our potential X-Game competitors to come practice, play and just have fun with their friends.
All participants must have a skate park ID with a valid 2009 sticker. Participants that already have a 2008 skate park ID must come to the Civic Center at 84 Broad Street and get a new 2009 sticker. Those who do not have an ID must come to Civic Center to get an ID along with a 2009 sticker. Those under the age of 18 must have an adult present to register and sign a waiver.
Participants 18 and over must show proof of age. The cost is $30 for residents of Bloomfield (must provide proof of residency; license if 18 or older, PSE&G bill, etc., under 18 must bring their most recent report card, PSE&G bill, etc). Non-residents will be charged $60. The season will run from March until January. ID’s will be available for purchase and renewal, during regular business hours starting on Monday, February 23, 2009. There will also be special Saturday registration dates on February 28 and March 7 from 9:00 am until
12:00 pm.
Bloomfield Middle School student Hayden Kucharski stated, “Skateboarders finally have a place that we can call our own and it is totally awesome.” Director Anthony Nesto stated; “A lot of hard work, planning and collaborative efforts went into the development of the skate park and we are once again very proud to offer activities that extend beyond the major sports.” For further information on the skate park and other recreation sponsored programs, please call

The Bloomfield Recreation Commission was established in 1928, and in addition to implementing many recreational programs including those for our special needs population, it is also responsible for maintaining and improving all of the municipal parks in the Township of Bloomfield. The Recreation Department maintains nine parks which include 15 athletic fields, 10 tennis courts, three basketball courts, a new state-of-the-art skate board park and a handicap- accessible challenger baseball field. The Recreation Department is also very proud of serving the community by providing two senior citizen buses, a Dial-A-Ride Program and two shuttle buses for our residents that utilize New Jersey Transit.
