Employees assigned to the Police Record Bureau have a number of important responsibilities. Most of the paperwork generated by the Police Department, and forwarded to the Police Department, is coded, logged into the computer, and then filed by Record Bureau personnel. Included in the above are thousands of incident reports, accident reports, arrest reports, photos, fingerprint cards, gun permits and other legal documents.
In addition to the above, the Record Bureau is responsible for alarm registration and enforcement, and maintaining records on the hundreds of vehicles towed and impounded by the Patrol Division. Personnel in the Record Bureau also assist the public in obtaining copies of police reports, gun permits, and conducting background checks for “Letters of Good Conduct”.
The Record Bureau window is open to the public Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. (except holidays). If you are unable to come to the Record Bureau in persons, requests for reports may be mailed in. All requests for reports should include at a minimum the date of the incident, location, time of day, and names of individuals involved. Please also include a stamped, self-addressed envelope. Please contact the Record Bureau for the cost of the report you are requesting.
