Meet Our Team



Captain Decker was appointed to the Bloomfield Township Police Department in 1979. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1989,to Lieutenant in 1997 and Captain in 2005. He is currently assigned to the Records Bureau and supervises the Community Policing Unit. He is the President of the Essex County Crime Prevention Officers Association, and an instructor at the Essex County Police Academy. He is a member of the New Jersey Police Honor Legion and the Bloomfield Police Emerald Society. Jim resides in Bloomfield and has three children; Michael, Katelyn and Mary. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his children, watching football, and fishing and camping.






Officer Cathy Sherman has been a Police Officer for 25 years. You've probably seen her visiting the schools, riding Bikes on Patrol and attending neighborhood meetings, as well as many of the special events that Bloomfield Police host. She loves working with Bloomfield's kids and residents. She likes to read, bike all over the country, travel, do puzzles, watch movies, and she's a die-hard Yankee fan!









Officer O'Connell was hired to the Bloomfield Police Department on August 20, 1986. You may see him around town riding a brand-new Cannondale 21 speed Mountain bike with the Bike Patrol. He's been trained in Fingerprinting, Breathalyzer, Crime Prevention, Community Policing, Bias Crimes and Accident Investigation. Kevin is an active member of the Community Policing Unit and is in charge of the newly forming Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT). He's interested in all sports, especially Football. His favorite Pro team is the Jets, and his favorite College team is Notre Dame. Go Irish!

 

Mike Ruggiero, the P.B.A. president, is now our highly respected K-9 Officer.  He and his pal, Roscoe the Bloodhound, work together to help find lost children, stolen property, and suspects who have left the scene of the crime.
