Follow–up criminal investigations
Licensing investigations
The Criminal Investigative Bureau consists of two divisions:
The Criminal Investigative Division and
The Youth Aid Bureau.
Each division is staffed with superiors and investigators.
The Criminal Investigative Bureau is responsible for the investigation and successful prosecution of numerous incidents, such as: homicides, robbery, sex assaults, burglary, theft, CDS offenses, bias offenses, assaults, weapon offenses, mischief etc. The investigation of liquor license and firearm applications, the classification and retention of criminal arrest records, the liaison for criminal matters before the municipal court and the handling of all evidence and property seized by the department The Bloomfield Detective Bureau cooperates and works with outside agencies, such as the Essex County Prosecutors Office, New Jersey State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Attorney Generals office and other Police Agencies.
