About The Bloomfield Parks & Recreation
The mission of the Bloomfield Recreation Department is to provide its community with diverse, year round youth, adult, senior and family orientated programs utilizing their extraordinary parks and recreation facilities. These affordable activities are to be well-supervised, age appropriate and conducted at convenient times and locations all while enhancing physical, social and cultural growth of all residents.
The Bloomfield Recreation Department coordinates a wide variety of of programs and events for the residents of Bloomfield. We offer traditional sports programs such as football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, track & field and tennis. However, we also offer many non traditional sports such as street hockey, karate, golf, bowling, skateboarding and fishing.
Here at the Bloomfield Recreation Department we have adopted the slogan of "Not Just Sports." Staying true to those words we also offer art, dance, music, exercise, educational programs and many others. Our programs are offered to children as early as 18 months all the way through to our senior citizen population. Some programs are seasonal but we offer a wide variety of programs throughout the year that are certain to meet your family's needs. It is truly fun for the whole family!
But the Bloomfield Recreation Department doesn't stop there! We also have a transportation division that runs five days a week and select weekends. We provide senior citizen bus service to enable our senior population to purchase groceries and personal items. Our department also offers a shuttle service to the Bloomfield Train Station on Lackawanna Place. This train provides direct service to Hoboken and Manhattan. We have two shuttles driving to the train station daily from 5am to 9am. In the evening we return commuters home from 5pm to 9pm at night. Lastly, we provide a Dial-A-Ride service for our senior citizen and special needs population. This is a curb to curb service that provides free transportation to Bloomfield residents anywhere in Essex County. While rides are primarily for medical purposes, we try to accommodate other requests. To find out more information on our transportation division, please click the link to your left or call 973-566-7194.
And if that isn't enough we also offer many different special events that take place throughout the year. In the Fall we run Bloomfield's September 11th Memorial Service, a ourdoor movie and family overnight campout in the park and the Halloween Scream on the Green. In the winter we run the tree lighting ceremony and holiday celebration. In the Spring we run the Town Wide Track Meet, Memorial Day Parade, the Little League Town Tournament, Concerts on the Green, Concerts at Brookside Park, Independence Day Celebration, summer camps and sports clinics. Not to mention many other various trips and events such as trips to Atlantic City, Radio City Music Hall, the circus and trips to various sporting events.
If you can think of it, we probably provide it. If we don't, give us a call and we will work with you to make it a reality!
