BLOOMFIELD WATER DEPARTMENT SEEKING VOLUNTEERS
LEAD AND COPPER TESTING AND SAMPLING
In an effort to expand our sampling pool, the Bloomfield Water Department is seeking volunteers to have their water tested for lead and copper. The township is due to sample for lead and copper beginning in July of this year.
Ideal candidates would be single family residences that have not had any major plumbing renovations done after 1986. Major plumbing would not include adding a bathroom; plumbing fixtures such as toilets or sinks; replacing hot water heaters or other such minor improvements. If you had major improvements performed, or do not know this information, it is not mandatory to be considered for sampling.
Sampling will require the property owner to draw a first sample of drinking water from their kitchen sink first thing in the morning, prior to the use of any water. Your plumbing system should remain unused for a period of six hours or more before drawing the sample. Sampling bottles will be distributed by the Township as well as arrangements for picking up the water samples. If you are chosen as a sample site you will be notified well in advance of the sampling and testing period. You will also be provided with the results of the sampling, at no cost, once they are obtained from the testing lab.
If you wish to participate, please contact the Township Engineer at 973-680-4130 or via e-mail (preferred) at firstname.lastname@example.org.
