Bloomfield Police Tip411 App Leads to an Arrest at Bloomfield High School

A 19 year old student was seen brandishing a BB gun that appeared to be a handgun, was quickly disarmed by BPD

BLOOMFIELD, NJ -- A Bloomfield High School student was taken into police custody yesterday after an anonymous post on Bloomfield’s crime tip app, TIP411, alerted police of a potentially dangerous situation happening at the High School. The anonymous tip was that a student was seen flashing what appeared to be a Glock handgun in the cafeteria.

Upon receiving the tip, a small group of Bloomfield police officers led by the Bloomfield Police Department’s Youth Aid Division leader Lt. George Ricci arrived at the school and arrested the armed student, 19 year old Angel Perdomo, without incident. Assessing the situation, officers discovered the gun was in fact a BB gun. Mr. Perdomo was arrested and charged with Unlawful possession of a firearm in an educational facility. Perdomo has been detained in Bloomfield police headquarters while awaiting transportation to the Essex County Correctional Facility.

“Once again, our Youth Aid Division officers proved what a true resource they are to the entire community. Their division works tirelessly, every day, to develop relationship with our students. These partnerships are invaluable, and likely lead to students feeling comfortable leaving anonymous tips about concerning incidents like what happened yesterday,” said Director of Public Safety Samuel DeMaio. “Fortunately, this incident did not involve a deadly weapon, but I am proud that our officers conducted themselves in a way to ensure everyone’s safety regardless of what type of weapon it was.”

The Bloomfield crime tip app, TIP411, launched in April 2017. The app is available for both Apple and Android devices in their respective app stores and can be found by searching “Bloomfield PD.” To submit a tip via text message, text BLOOMFIELDPD and your tip to 847411.
