Bloomfield Kicks off Summer of Fun with Memorial Day Parade

BLOOMFIELD, NJ -- The Bloomfield Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department kicked off the Summer of Fun with the Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 28. The parade stepped off at 9:30am at the corner of Broad Street and Warren Street and marched south on Broad Street to the reviewing stand on the Town Green in front of the Civic Center.

“I would like to thank all of the parade participants, and especially the Bloomfield Joint Memorial Committee, which worked diligently on creating a great event for people of all ages,” said Mayor Michael Venezia. “I want to thank the hundreds of Bloomfield residents who joined us in remembrence of the brave Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.”

The parade included: past and present veterans, community organizations, sports teams, classic cars, Military, Police, Fire, EMS and township vehicles as well as marching bands, and more. The Recreation Department arranged rides for veterans who were unable to march.

“This is an important national holiday, and the veterans who have risked their lives for our country should be celebrated and accommodated in every way possible,” said Director of Recreation Michael Sceurman.
