PSE&G to Upgrade Bloomfield Gas Facilities on September 20th

Repairs to be Done on Smith St., E. Liberty St., and Hazelwood Rd.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ -- The Township of Bloomfield and the Public Service Enterprise Group (PSE&G) announced today that PSE&G will begin extensive underground pipe reconstruction of four sites in Bloomfield on Wednesday, September 20th. Bloomfield Police offices will be providing traffic control at the four sites of repair work.

“The residents of Bloomfield deserve the best available infrastructure, and that includes the underground pipes that supply our gas and electricity,” said Mayor Michael Venezia. “Replacing our underground infrastructure with new, durable pipes will conserve energy, and reduce the spread of greenhouse gases.”

The four selected sites are: Hazelwood Rd. between Smith St. and Orchard St.; E. Liberty St. on the corner of Smith St.; and two locations on Smith St. near the corner of Belleville Ave. This work will be performed as part of PSE&G’s Gas System Modernization Program (GSMP) which involves removing and replacing 510 miles of leaky cast-iron and unprotected steel pipes with new, modern plastic pipes, ensuring the continued safety and reliability of Bloomfield’s gas system.

“Our GSMP initiative is being implemented in communities throughout New Jersey to eliminate future leaks and provide residents more direct access to the utilities they need,” said PSE&G Senior Public Affairs Manager Everton Scott. “The residents living near these repaired pipes will see an immediate impact in efficiency.”
