New Jersey State Depository
at the Bloomfield Public Library

Donald E. Carlo, Depository Librarian

Since 1968 the Bloomfield Public Library has been a State Depository Library. As such, the library receives State Documents on a variety of topics from New Jersey agencies.

Many of the most popular State Documents are housed with the Library's Reference Collection and can be located by using the OPAC. Most documents, however, are located in the New Jersey Depository or in the New Jersey file in the Library's Special Collections area. This includes pamphlets, reports, legislative hearings, as well as older catalogued documents. Current Annual reports are held downstairs in the Reference Room, previous years in the Depository.

Since 1998, the library has maintained a database of all documents it receives. A librarian at our Reference Desk can access this database to find documents by keywords. The library maintains individual documents for five years only unless the piece has special significance.

Increasingly state information is available online on the New Jersey State website. The State Library has a listing of such online publications. An especially useful site for demographic information is the State Data Center site.
