Ask at the Reference Desk for more information. Also, check out the State's information on local governments.
To find information on Housing Sales, the June 2000 page of this website gives median and average sales figures for single family homes and for condos by county plus the top ten municipalities in several categories. The earlier months in 2000 just give median and average sales by county without separating single family and condos.
You can also find statistics at the U.S. Census Bureau's website. And check out About Counties: New Jersey National Association of Counties site. Together with its links to the hpi county pages, there is a lot of information here, including population and square miles. Check population, business and geography Quickfacts for NJ counties. Just use the pulldown menu to select your county. More population data can be found at the Workforce New Jersey website (Subcounty Population Estimates: New Jersey, 1990 - 1998).
For current events, check IPL NJ newspapers in a particular area for local news.
For the history of different areas in NJ, check their local historical societies or find a town history by checking their websites. First get the name of a town in a specific county then check to see if any of them have homepages with local history links.
Most public libraries carry a good selection of New Jersey history books. Information on a county or town can often be found in a library in that county. Search for a library in your county. The state library also has a lot of good New Jersey information.
If you need more information for your report, especially if your county doesn't have a web site, try contacting the county clerk's office. They might send send you free information which could include county history, government data, travel brochures and maps. If you plan to contact your county, leave plenty of time It may take a couple of weeks for them to respond to your letter or phone call.
