Perinatal Hepatitis B Program

A state-wide perinatal hepatitis registry is maintained by the New Jersey State Department of Health and Senior Services to identify and follow up on positive Hepatitis B pregnant women and their household contacts. The Nursing Division participates in this program. Upon receipt of notification of a pregnant resident that meets this criteria, a public health nurse contacts the woman and conducts necessary follow up. This ensures that the baby and contacts are immunized, thereby protecting them from contracting hepatitis B. The Centers for Disease Control offers a website with information on perinatal hepatitis B.
