At least once a month, Barbara Goldman from the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation sees Bloomfield clients at the Human Services office. This is a service to Bloomfield residents in that they do not have to travel to Newark to meet with Ms. Goldman. The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation services disabled, unemployed citizens.
The Bloomfield Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT) provides advocacy to victims of domestic violence. When the police are called to the scene of a domestic violence incident, the victim is asked if she/he would like to speak to a Domestic Violence Advocate. If the victim says, "yes", they are then taken to the police station where they will meet with an advocate who can inform them of their rights and also direct them to proper resources. The meeting is confidential. The DVRT is run by a civilian coordinator and a police officer and the advocates consist of volunteers who have been properly screened, trained and certified.
The Bloomfield Division of Human Services has a partnership with the Human Needs Food Pantry located at 9 Label St., Montclair where residents can receive fresh fruit, chicken or meat and groceries on a weekly basis if they qualify. Clients need to be prescreened by the Division who will determine eligibility. Home delivery is available in certain circumstances. Hours for self pick-up are Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m. and Thursday evenings for working families.
The Neighbors Helping Neighbors Network (NHNN) is a collaboration between the Division of Human Services, faith based organizations, local citizens and businesses. The (NHNN) was established by the Division to help build community and partnerships between faith based organizations, local citizens, businesses and Bloomfield individuals who are in need of services that can not be accessed through other avenues. The NHNN provides visitation to seniors, the disabled, minor repairs and maintenance and shopping and transportation services to Bloomfield residents who meet the criteria of the NHNN. Individuals receiving services are first screened by the Division to determine eligibility.
