INSPECTION SERVICES

The Health Department annually inspects retail food establishments, daycare centers, nursing homes, boarding homes and pools to assure compliance with State and Local regulations. Food safety practices are of utmost importance and are stressed to merchants during inspections. Food handling personnel are required to complete the Department's Food Handling Course or a similar course approved by the Board of Health. Complaints about establishments inspected by the Department can be referred to the Health Department at 973.680.4024.

CITIZEN COMPLAINTS

Numerous complaints are received annually and investigated by the Department. Complaints cover a wide range of areas including solid waste, litter, rodents, noise, odor, housing, animals, animal bites to humans, overgrowth, property maintenance and food establishments.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES

In order to assure the quality of the Township's drinking water, the Department collects fifty (50) potable water samples per month from both residential and business locations throughout the Township. These samples are analyzed for bacteria level standards. Drinking water is also tested for lead and copper to insure compliance with the Federal Drinking Water Act. Additional specific water analyses are performed when necessary.

Childhood lead poisoning investigations are performed which include the inspection of the dwelling, issuance of abatement order (if applicable) and proper follow-up. The Nursing Division provides additional information to the affected family, i.e. diet and nutritional needs of the child and assistance in the investigation of the lead source through proper questioning of the child's parent or guardian.
