Three
Animal Control Officers assure the public's
safety from exposure to animals. The functions
of Animal Control include; rabies
control, West
Nile Virus (WNV) specimen collection
and submission, animal cruelty investigation,
and enforcement of state
and local animal control
laws
and regulations
such as; number of pets, illegal animals,
licensing of pets and running at large.
The
Township offers Rabies Vaccinations free of
cost to Bloomfield residents. Please call 973-680-4024 for
additional information.
All
pet owners in Bloomfield are required to obtain
a license of their cat(s) and dog(s). Licensing
is mandated by the State and the responsibility
of each local municipality.
A
license application can be picked up at or
completed at the Health Department (Room 111).
You may also print out an application, fill it out and bring it to the Health Department or mail it with required proof of rabies vaccination. Proof of Rabies vaccination is required and cannot expire less than 10 months from date of license issuance.
No person owning, harboring,
keeping or in charge of any dog or cat shall
cause, suffer or allow such dog or cat to
soil, defile, defecate on or commit any nuisance
on any common thoroughfare, sidewalk, passageway,
bypath, play area, park or any place where
people congregate or walk or upon any public
property whatsoever or upon any private property
without the permission of the owner of such
property.
All
persons are prohibited from permitting any
animals belonging to him or in his possession
to run at large in any of the public streets,
parks or other open places in the township.
Service animals, as defined by the Americans
with Disabilities Act and animals engaged
in police, fire, or other government sanctioned
activities are exempt from this provision.
No
person shall keep or harbor any dog/cat within
the township without registering and obtaining
a license therefore, to be issued by the Health
Officer upon application by the owner and
payment of the prescribed fee.
It
shall be unlawful for any person to keep or
maintain swine, goats, cattle, horses, other
livestock or ducks, geese, pigeons, chickens
or other fowl within the Township of Bloomfield
on any private or public plot of land or other
premises.
It
shall be unlawful for any reason to feed any
migratory or resident waterfowl or wildlife
on any private or public land within the Township.
