Mayor Raymond
J. McCarthy
The
Mayor was born on June 4, 1950 in Hoboken, New Jersey. While
in Hoboken, he attended Our Lady of Grace Parochial School
and St. Joseph's Boys High School in West New York, New
Jersey. He later attended Fairleigh Dickinson University where he was awarded a B.A. Degree in Psychology.
He resided in Hoboken until 1977, at which time he married
Janet Briante of Bloomfield. The couple chose to make Bloomfield
their home based upon their desire to stay in a town that
they absolutely love. During his early years in Bloomfield,
he served in various volunteer capacities included Little League, BHS Gals and Chairman
of the Bloomfield Business Advisory Board from 1987 to 2001.
He and his wife have owned and managed McCarthy Appraisal
Services, Inc., which is a residential real estate appraisal company that has been in existence since 1982.
His involvement in the community is extensive as the scope of his involvement reaches a broad spectrum of interests in Bloomfield. He is a proud, active member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Bloomfield UNICO, Bloomfield Lions Club and the Bloomfield Rotary Club. It is his concern for all of the people of Bloomfield that allows him to support not only these groups but various other important charities within the community. As Mayor of Bloomfield he has performed over 500 wedding ceremonies for Bloomfield residents. However, the most important aspect of these ceremonies is that each couple is asked to donate some sort of contribution to a local charity in place of charging a fee. This has generated well over $25,000 for these worthy causes, which in turn benefits those residents of Bloomfield who need assistance.
The Mayor has just won his third consecutive election as Mayor of the Township of Bloomfield. As Mayor his involvement not only locally but state wide has provided him with an insight that enables him to better meet the needs of the citizens of Bloomfield. He is currently a member of the New Jersey League of Municipalities Legislative Committee, which is a highly respected group of State Officials who are directly involved in Legislative action throughout the state. He has also been involved with Congressman Bill Pascrell on his Federal Transportation Committee.
In his third term the Mayor's commitment to Bloomfield is stronger than ever. His experience and relationships with other state elected officials makes it easier for Bloomfield to be the beneficiary of this important working relationship. The Mayor sees nothing but bright skies ahead for this community and will work tirelessly to make Bloomfield the "Jewel of Essex County."
