BLOOMFIELD, NJ -- The Bloomfield Police Department will continue its lineup of child-friendly activities in the community on Saturday, June 8th with a free fishing event for kids. “It’s always great to see the men and women of the Bloomfield Police Department organize community events to connect children with law enforcement officers in a positive way,” said Mayor Michael Venezia. “The annual ‘Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs’ reach out to our youth and help building community relationships through sports and recreation. I commend our officers for volunteering their time to give back to our residents and make memories with our kids.”

“Lieutenant Naomi Zepeda and the entire Community Policing Unit do a tremendous job building relations with children and their families in Bloomfield,” said Director of Public Safety Samuel DeMaio. “Whether it be through toy drives, pizza parties or the annual fishing derby, our officers are always ready to bridge the gap through community policing initiatives and interactions. I am proud of our Police Department for organizing these events and encourage children interested in participating in this event to join us on June 8.

The registration deadline is May 27. Brookdale ShopRite is additionally sponsoring the event and will be providing breakfast free of charge. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.. Participants must bring their own fishing pole, but the Police Department will have a few available in case some do not have their own. Free t-shirts will be given to those who register early.
