Bloomfield Partners with NJ Human Services & GetSetUp to Offer Free Online Courses for Older Adults

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – Bloomfield Township has partnered with the New Jersey Division of Aging Services and GetSetUp to provide hundreds of virtual classes for older adults, taught by peers, to keep residents mentally, physically and socially active. Classes are interactive, easy to join, offered day and night, and free for Bloomfield community members ages 60 and older.

“This is an incredible opportunity for Bloomfield residents to stay active, social, and learn new things from the comfort of their own home,” said Mayor Michael Venezia. “We are excited to be in partnership with GetSetUp and are grateful that New Jersey continues to prioritize the needs of and to empower our older communities to live happy, healthy, and more connected lives.”

GetSetUp is the largest and fastest growing online community of older adults who want to learn, connect with others and unlock new life experiences. The platform offers live classes taught by peers who are experts in their field, social hours hosted by community members, and special events with speakers who directly address areas of interest to older adults. Classes are taught by older adults on a highly interactive, custom-built video platform where older adults can connect during and in between classes. Older residents can choose from more than 500 available classes on a range of topics such as aging in place, computers, budgeting, mental fitness, and more with classes offered in English, Spanish, Hindi and Mandarin.

“I strongly encourage Bloomfield Township residents who are 60 and older to sign up and take advantage of the free classes that are available,” said Councilwoman Sarah Cruz. “It is the perfect opportunity for those who want to learn a new skill or simply stay connected to the growing online community. Exploring new activities and connecting with others enhances quality of life and we are proud to be bringing more opportunities for community building to our Township.”

Individuals can join GetSetUp classes from any computer, laptop or mobile device with an Internet connection. To learn how to create a GetSetUp account, visit:
